The speech illustrates the history of the Emirate and gives a concise introduction to the current architectural and urban development in the UAE and the entire Gulf region. As an outline of the program, current major projects in Dubai to be visited on the following specialized days will be introduced.
Projects which are in the stage of planning or early construction and are therefore not yet interesting for an «on-site visit» will be explained explicitly in context.
Visiting the presentation center of the government owned developer Nakheel, which has a construction capacity of more than 30 billion US$. Nakheel is one of the largest developers worldwide and is in charge of the spectacular off-shore-projects such as the Palm Islands and The World. Various projects will be explained and discussed by means of models and satellite plans.

The Souq Madinat Jumeirah forms the center point of the hotel, shopping and events compound which was opened in 2004. After a tour through the complex which was built in the style of old Arabic palaces and is penetrated by channels, lunch could be taken at one of the 44 restaurants on location.
Dubai is at the forefront in the design of shopping mall concepts. After a world trip in Ibn Battuta Mall, the Mall of the Emirates invites you to a ski run on a black ski piste. Both mall concepts will be explained comparatively.
On 217 square kilometers, the largest amusement and leisure park of the world is arising. Some of the 45 large-scale projects have already started their operations in an area which is twice as large as DisneyLand and DisneyWorld together.

Burj Dubai, designed by Skidmore Owings & Merrill, is the highest building in the world since March 2008.
Upon completion in 2010, the 818m high tower will also feature the highest usable floor of the world. With the highest number of aboveground floors, the highest roof and the highest peak, the records of the highest building in all aspects are again combined in one building for the first time since the construction of the Empire State Building in 1931.
In addition to the new Downtown, the new Old Town of Dubai opened its gates by opening the Souq Al Bahar in January 2008.

Since its opening in September 2004, the Dubai International Financial Center (DIFC) has attracted top-class firms from all over the world. The stock market (DIFX), opened in September 2005, is the fastest-growing financial center worldwide and likes already to compare itself with New York, London and Hong Kong.
The rational architecture of the Anglo-American office Gensler gives the DIFC an appearance of the highest international standards.
